Heather Robinson made the best game in the Half-Life universe (EPISTLE 3). For some reason, that made me want to make a game for the Epistle 3 jam, too.

I wanted to curate microfiction as dialogue for this Bitsy jam, but I couldn't figure out exactly how I'd find participants or what structure I wanted. I then figured I could combine the Epistle 3 jam with this one.

DLG SPR_e
Adding more stuff onto the already-huge load of Half-Life culture seems silly when I would rather focus my energy on tiny games. Well... shit.

DLG SPR_f
I skipped out on finishing Whistleblower with Wael to create this. I felt too much malaise to do much of it, so I continued working on it the day of the hat party of Neal. Okay, this is actually going on until the pumpkin party/birthday of Andrew Douglas Campbell.

DLG SPR_g
kaths

DLG SPR_h
I started working on this again when I was able to defenestrate the need for cohesion or sense. *Defenestrate means to throw someone/something out of the window. I learned that word from the letters section of EGM a couple of decades ago.

DLG SPR_i
I am currently watching Robert Yang's "Level With Me" series of videos on Half-Life. It is a playthrough with commentary focusing on level design. I usually dislike watching other people play games (except speedrunning), and I especially dislike commentary on people playing games (speedrunning is also an exception here), but this is quite educational. It is best viewed with warm cookies and hot cocoa.

DLG SPR_j
During his commentated playthrough of Half-Life, Robert Yang will say a scientist or a Barney is "annoying" or "served his purpose," and flippantly kills them. I adore this dark humour, even though I am the type of dork to be ultra-nice to these people in my playthrough, since I dislike murdering humans in games. Okay, yeah, I probably did the same thing several times, too. :(

DLG SPR_k
I feel that, based on his politics, Robert Yang would be anti-gun violence. It seems that many other indie devs utilize guns/murder/violence as features in their games, despite what their politics appear to be (though I may be incorrect). I know there's a difference between "real life" and videogames, but I feel maybe ideals could be utilized more often, since games are a reflection of the author. And yeah, I know I might just be overanalyzing and projecting, but I cannot *not* wonder about it.

DLG SPR_l
I will probably make a FPS someday. However, I would make it more akin to Morning Post, something with a positive/happy shooting mechanism. I wonder why this is not more common, both in videogames and IRL. I would like to make a rifle that shot syringes filled with baths of ecstasy to make animal feel warm and safe.

DLG SPR_m
I would rather not kill humans in FPSs. I was bummed to do that in Half-Life to the soldiers, especially after finding out they did not know the true purpose of their job (as revealed in the Opposing Force expansion pack). I mean, I am more okay with killing aliens, even though it is sad (it is the most awful when a human protagonist is invading their space). That is one reason I love Tower of Guns: your enemies are cold, murderous machines.

DLG SPR_n
The timing for the Epistle 3 Jam is serendipitous. I started watching "Level With Me" (more info in another room), approximately twelve (00,012) months after I played Half-Life for the first time. The reason I played it last fall is because the orange cover art means autumn to me.f

DLG SPR_o
I think playing a game during its ideal season enhances the experience. Of course, not all of them are placed within a particular part of the year, so they can be played anytime. However, if they have a colour scheme/mood reminiscent of a season (depressing, dark, and predominantly blue palettes are for winter), then I go with that. Same with day and night (horror with the sun still up is not so good).

DLG SPR_p
Checking out all of these Bitsy games is simultaneously inspiring and overwhelming. There is so much cool shit, but there are so many ideas, words, and pixels to move around! Additionally, it is really difficult for me to write anything fictitious, so I am stuck (for now) doing "narratives" like this.

DLG SPR_q
My attention span is so short, I have a difficult time reading through some Bitsy games. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

DLG SPR_r
My original plan for this Bitsy Jam was to curate microfiction as dialogue for characters. I could not figure out how I would find participants or what structure I wanted, so I decided that I would combine this with the Epistle 3 jam because there are 2 other projects I want to do by Halloween (lol).

DLG SPR_s
For the actual Epistle 3, let us just focus on the romance between Gordon Freeman & Dr. Breen. They a could both stand to use a little more chub, and Gordon ought to grow out a full beard. It would be cute if they tried to have a baby together.

DLG SPR_t
Remember, it's always better to purchase games straight from the developers, donate to them if the game is free, and buy outside of Steam.

DLG SPR_u
Heather Robinson made EPISTLE 3, the best game in the Half-Life universe.

END 0
Epistle 3: Gordon Freeman and the newly reformed Wallace Breen agree to transform their conflict into a loving relationship, while Judith Mossman and Alyx Vance also decide they were meant for each other. The two couples wed on their favourite sea vessel, the Borealis. The women bear 16 children each, while Breen and Freeman unsucessfully try to impregnant each other. Unfortunately, as the two families were gathering in the dimensional portal to visit the Vortigaunts, a plane with your favourite sports team fell out of the sky and crashed into them. Sorry.
